Featured Animal Action

In the scene where we see a border patrolman with a dog on a leash, production hid a water bowl behind the guard post, where he drank water between takes. The dog was also placed in a trailer with air conditioning between takes as well.

In the scene where we see a horse trailer pull up on the side of the road and a few horses escape the trailer and run across a busy freeway, nearly being hit by trucks, before people bring them back to the side of the road, this sequence was shot in several blocks. The horses never came close to trucks. Those trucks were inserted in the scene through CGI in post production. A horse trailer was parked on grass off the side of the road. The horses were tied inside the trailer with a halter and lead rope. The road was completely closed for filming with the local police at all entrances. On action, the let the horses go, with men riding the horses. When the first two horses get to the roadway, a cue to the riders is given to pull back on the reins (this will simulate the time point when the CGI inserted truck will pass them on the roadway.) The image of the riders will also be erased in post production. The horses are all mounted by riders wearing blue suits, which are riding bareback. The horses’ reins and saddle pads were also covered with blue gaffer tape to be removed in post.

When we see the car swerve off the road with the horses in the trailer, the horses in that scene were fake. And when we see the men gather the horses and ride them back to the side of the road, those were trainers, dressed like the actors.
