There is one grotesque scene where a carnival geek takes a chicken out of a box and proceeds to bite off the chicken's head, leaving the headless body to fall to the ground twitching. This scene was shot in cuts. The live chicken was used as the man danced around holding the chicken and then a fake chicken with stage blood oozing from the neck "cavity" was used when the head was bitten off. In another scene we see two policemen standing over a mutilated cow which is dead. A fake cow was used in this scene. When one of the "freaks" of the carnival finds a stray cat he keeps it as a pet. Harker, out of spite, has the cat killed and then throws the cat to the saddened man. In this scene a fake cat was used. The geek has pet cockroaches which he keeps in a matchbox. In one scene he lets them out of the box to play with them and they scurry off. Real and fake cockroaches were used in this scene, the cockroaches were never harmed. In another scene Ian is looking for Harker and discovers Harkers coffin. Opening the lid he sees worms slithering in the dampened dirt. The worms were placed in the box with the dirt for this one scene. The howling VI is a horror film about Ian, a man who turns into a werewolf whenever there is a full moon or when a "Carney man", named Harker, with the aid of a crystal and a Latin chant is able to change Ian at will. Harker captures Ian for his freak show and all of the townspeople go after this less than human-like creature who, they feel, is responsible for numerous murders that have resently taken place. Little do they know that Harker is actually a vampire and has been killing the residents of the community for their blood!
