There are several scenes where Dex's dog is lying on the couch or floor by the fireplace. He is also shown lying on the old car seat, outside in Dex's backyard or being petted by the various actors. It wasn't hard for the trainer to convince the dog to stay on his mark for those scenes. The hard part was trying to get the dog off the set! In the scene where the dog wakes Dex up by licking his face, the trainer put some peanut butter on Dex's cheek to give the pooch some incentive. Not that Dex's cute face wasn't enough! When Dex and the dog play with the ball, Dex throws the ball and the dog runs and retrieves it. The trainer put the dog on it's mark and then just stood off camera and watched the dog have fun. During a pool party we see a wet Doberman Pincher run by the pool and then exit. Later, a young girl is shown holding a puppy on a leash. A couple walk by and pet the pup. The Doberman Pincher was rubbed down with some water right before filming and the trainer released the dog with a verbal cue. The trainer placed the puppy on a leash to the girl who holds it. Two actors pet the pup as they pass by. As Dex looks into his refrigerator one day to find a drink, he notices his dog watching him and licking his lips. Dex takes the can of whipped cream and squirts some into the dog's mouth. He loved it and begged for more! A trainer stood just off camera and watched as the dog happily obliged.
