Waiting to Exhale
Waiting to Exhale is a present day drama set in Arizona, about four black women, Savannah, Bernadine, Robin, and Gloria, all in their thirties with a lot going for them. They all share the same misguided notions that they need a man in their lives, to validate their existence. With each man that passes through their life, they always think he is "Mr. Right". Unfortunately, they all share the same misfortune of picking losers. Events occur within each others lives, bringing them closer together through their support and friendship for one another. Through these events, they all come to realize that they can lead fulfilling lives without the presence of a man around.

Featured Animal Action
The animal action is minimal with the use of a dog some pigeons, and a woodpecker. There is a scene where the girls are coming out of church after services and some pigeons fly off the roof. The trainer merely released the pigeons from their cage on the roof and retrieved them after the scene was complete. In another scene, a woodpecker is seen outside of Bernadine's home pecking on a cactus. The trainer put padding on the woodpecker's leg and attached a thin line of monofilament to the woodpecker to keep him from flying away. The dog is seen throughout the film. He is a pet of Robins. The dog is seen sitting on the couch, bed, and floor, several times and being carried from one point to the other by the actress. The trainer merely placed the dog on his mark and retrieved him after the shot. There is also a scene where Bernadine and Gloria go to a local festival. While at the festival they stop to watch some ostrich and camel races as they eat some yogurt. At the time of year that this film was shot there is an ostrich festival that actually takes place with ostrich and camel races. This information was obtained through our Arizona Humane Society.
