A light drama (but pretty implausible at times) about lazy, self-absorbed kids, Sue Ellen (nick-named Swell), Kenny, Zack, Melissa and Walter, getting a look at the real world and becoming responsible. The children's mother goes on a trip to Australia for two months, leaving an elderly woman as baby-sitter with expense money. Two days later the sitter dies and the kids try to locate the expense money, to no avail. 17 year old Sue Ellen loses a bet with her 15 year old brother, Kenny, and gets a job as an Administrative Assistant, with a phony resume, to a Sr. V.P. of Operations of a fashion company which makes uniforms. She knows nothing about working in an office, but aquires the needed information from a co-worker. She proceeds to "borrow" money from the company's petty cash for living expenses for her and her siblings, but is panicked when her check is not enough to cover the amount she has taken. Before her mother returns from her trip, Sue Ellen is able to promote some of the "up-dated teen fashion" uniforms she designed and turns the whole family into responsible young adults.
