In David Duchovny's writing and directorial debut, the actor plays Tom Warshaw, an American who has created a new life for himself in Paris that includes a son and semi-estranged wife. To better understand his current troubles, Tom flashes back to 1973 and remembers his tumultuous 13th year back home in Greenwich Village, New York, eventually coming to terms with the tragic events that forever shaped his life.

Featured Animal Action
One of the film's running gags is that various dogs cannot resist urinating on Tommy and Pappas' delivery bike. Six dogs of various breeds and sizes were on call for this action. To elicit the dogs' natural instinct to mark their territory, a trainer sprayed the bicycle tire with dog urine just before the cameras rolled. The dogs were walked a few feet to the tire and the rest came naturally. A trainer then retrieved the dogs.
As Tommy takes Melissa home from the dance, they pass a horse-drawn carriage. This was filmed in Central Park, catching footage of one of the carriages that take passengers on park tours every day. The street was closed for filming, and according to American Humane's Animal Safety Representative, driver Irwin Karacs and his eight-year-old Belgian horse "Fiore" were thrilled to be in a film.
Production provided American Humane with all necessary receipts for the meat and carcasses that hang in the meat locker.
