Roommates is the touching story of Dr. Michael Holezcek and his relationship with his strict, but loving grandfather. Michael, orphaned at age five, was raised by his grandfather, Rocky. Rocky, from the old school of thought, raises Michael with a firm hand, but it is obvious that he loves his grandson very much. Michael grows into a young man and becomes a surgeon. He meets a young woman, Beth, and asks her for her hand in marriage. They marry and have two children, Mo and Lisa. Unfortunately, Beth meets with an untimely death when she is involved in a car accident. Michael, on top of being grief stricken, realizes that he is now a single parent. Rocky and Beth's mother, Judith, become the children's constant "baby-sitters" as Michael still has to contend with all the duties of being an up and coming doctor. Judith tries to undermine Michael and Rocky in order to get sole custody of the children. However, she proves to be no match for Rocky and his tenacity, so things remain the same, with the exception of a few less visits from Grandma Judith. The children grow and learn much from the wealth of Rocky's wisdom, until he dies at the age of 107.
