Midnight Sun, The

This short film is based on a poem written by Robert W. Service, "The Cremation of Sam Mcgee." It is about two men who are on a gold expedition in the cold arctic. One man becomes ill and makes the other promise he will cremate him, rather than bury him, if he should die before they return home.

Featured Animal Action

This film was shot in beautiful Breckenridge Colorado. Four Siberian Huskies, owned by the trainer, played the team of sled dogs. The trainer familiarized the team of dogs with everything including the sled and the props. The area where the filming took place was a training area the dogs used frequently. The trainer secured the dogs to the sled and the dogs ran roughly one hundred yards at a time. The average weight the dogs can pull is eighty pounds per dog and the loaded sled weighed approximately two hundred pounds. Sled dogs are trained to run very fast for short periods of time and to pull heavy loads. These dogs were conditioned to the task.
