The following steps outline how to earn the American Humane's End Credit Disclaimer "No Animals Were Harmed"®. Certified Animal Safety Representatives™ oversee animal action on the set, enforcing American Humane's Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media and intervening on behalf of animal actors when necessary.

SARS-CoV-2 (Covid 19) is a global concern. Human-to-animal transfer has been known to occur in some species, therefore American Humane believes precautions should be taken to protect animal actors.
Following these steps does not guarantee a Certified Animal Safety Representative will be present on set or that your production will receive American Humane's End Credit Certification or sign-off letter.
Note: Beginning September 1st, 2013, AHA will be charging travel expenses to Production for our Safety Representatives to be on set. That will include if applicable:
- Hourly Travel Rate: US $20/hour for reasonable travel time of any CASRs. Travel days will not exceed 8 hours per day for billing purposes. Note: American Humane will send one or more CASR to monitor animal action, as deemed necessary by AHA.
- Out of Pocket Expenses: Reasonable travel expenses as necessary: e.g., airfare/train/etc., hotel, tolls, parking, per diem (not to exceed $60 per day), car rental (including gas reimbursement, rather than mileage). Mileage @ US 0.50 ¢/mile for staff personal vehicle use.

- Storyboards (for commercials, music videos, and still shoots)
- Animal/Livestock Day-out-of-Days (if your production uses them)
› Keep American Humane in the loop
Keep American Humane in the loop during production. To keep us in the loop, simply include American Humane on the production’s daily call sheet email distribution list or fax batch.
› Read and distribute the Guidelines
Download, read, print, and distribute the Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media to all cast and crew members who are involved in scenes with animals, including prop masters, explosive experts, and stunt coordinators. Call American Humane Association at (818) 501-0123 with any questions or concerns and to discuss the animal action. These Guidelines are a valuable tool; however, only an American Humane Animal Safety Representative present on the set can properly enforce the Guidelines and ensure that production is in compliance.

Safety of animal actors = Safety for everyone on set.
› Make Sure to Obtain all Permits and Waivers
Ensure that all the animals working in your production have all necessary federal, state, and local permits as well as any other licenses that may be required by law.
Once principal photography on a production is completed, American Humane's Film & TV Unit must screen the finished product prior to its release in order for it to qualify for our end-credit certification/sign-off letter and/or our rating.
This screening step is necessary to substantiate the animal action depicted in the final cut as that which was monitored by our Certified Animal Safety Representatives™ during production. By substantiating the action — and how it was accomplished — we can award and stand behind our “No Animals Were Harmed”® end credit or sign-off and, if necessary, defend a production from erroneous criticism.
